CdSe quantum dots (QDs) have been synthesized in various controllable sizes by a simple chemical method in a one step process without need to expensive equipment. The nanostructures are deposited on the Si-solar cells, for investigating the enhancement of photovoltaic efficiency. It is found that the efficiency of the Si-solar cell is enhanced by drop casting of the QDs on the cell depending on the particle size. Furthermore, the optical properties of the nanostructures are characterized by UV–Visible absorption and photoluminescence. Moreover, the nonlinear optical responses of the CdSe quantum dots have been studied via Z-scan technique. In fact, the optical nonlinearity of these quantum dots is arising from free-carrier absorption as well as quantum confinement.
