Camera has been widely used in computer vision and mobile robotics applications because the sensor provides complementary information. However, the chief drawback of camera is that it only can provide 2D image information without depth information. There are lots of people studying the distance measurement with single visual camera, however it is difficult to achieve high precision. Usually we use two cameras to form stereo image and measure distance. Obviously it is complex. In this paper, we study the reason why distance measurement with single camera can hardly achieve high precision and propose a new method for improving the accuracy. We evaluate the proposed method and compare with existing methods to demonstrate the efficiency and high precision.
