Abstract In this work, the effect of zigzag passageway on electrochemical properties of Bi12O15Cl6 is investigated mainly. Although Bi12O15Cl6 has a larger particle size (~5 μm) than Bi3O4Cl (~1 μm), Bi12O15Cl6 has a higher discharge capacitance (10,300 μF·cm−2) than the latter (9800 μF·cm−2) at 2 mA·cm−2. Moreover, the Coulomb efficiency only reaches 82% at the 1st cycle for Bi12O15Cl6, but rises to 110% after 400 cycles. It is found that for Bi3O4Cl, the expedite ion passageway favors for getting in and out of ion; for Bi12O15Cl6, the zigzag passageway leads to a charge accumulation. This work favors to understand the electrochemical process well.
