Key Points Question Are findings from a 2019 study suggesting elevated suicide risk among those receiving angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) vs angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI) medications replicable in a population of veterans in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA)? Findings In this case-control study, 1309 veteran VHA user suicide decedents from 2015 to 2017 were compared with 5217 controls. No significant difference in suicide risk between those receiving ARB vs ACEI prescriptions was found. Meaning Results suggest that previous findings of a higher suicide risk among ARB vs ACEI recipients are not generalizable to the population of veterans receiving VHA care.
