Key Points Question What is the overall prevalence of gestational diabetes in India, and what socioeconomic, demographic, clinical, and geographic factors are associated with it? Findings In this cross-sectional study using biometric data from 32 428 women aged 15 to 49 years, there was considerable variation in the prevalence of gestational diabetes across states and by individual socioeconomic, demographic, and clinical factors. Meaning These findings emphasize that within the context of universal screening for gestational diabetes in India, tailoring screening methods and potential interventions based on the burden of disease could maximize cost-effectiveness and improve outcomes.
