Key Points Question Is nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) associated with severe hypoglycemia in individuals with type 2 diabetes? Findings In cohort study of more than 1.9 million individuals, participants with type 2 diabetes and NAFLD without cirrhosis had an approximately 26% increased risk of severe hypoglycemia after adjustment for multiple clinical covariates. Meaning Knowledge of the association of NAFLD with severe hypoglycemia in adults with type 2 diabetes, independent of obesity status, could help to inform management.
