Key Points Question What is the status of the use of patient-reported outcome (PRO) tools in randomized clinical trials conducted in China? Findings This cross-sectional study of 34 033 clinical trials conducted in China from 2010 to 2020 revealed that few used PRO instruments, representing less than 5% of the participants, mainly involving pain, cancer, and musculoskeletal disease. PROs were commonly evaluated with the visual analog scale and the Short Form 36-Item Health Survey. Meaning These findings suggest that the application of PROs in clinical trials in China could be enhanced; much research has missed the opportunity to assess patient experience, which may lead to a lack of crucial data.
