Key Points Question Can the concept of textbook outcome (TO) be applied to elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC), and if so, what are the TO criteria and the characteristics associated with TO failure? Findings In this cohort study of 2166 participants undergoing elective LC, 1851 (85.5%) achieved a TO with an unremarkable perioperative course. Predisposing factors and those contributing to TO failure were identified. Meaning These findings suggest that applying the concept of TO to elective LC provides a benchmark to enable institutions to identify strategies for quality improvement.
