Key Points Question Do physicians deviate from standard-of-care practices when treating patients who are also physicians? Findings This qualitative study of interviews with 21 physicians treating physician-patients found that 17 physicians (81%) agreed that their physician-patients were able to obtain privileges generally unavailable to nonphysician patients. None of the physicians interviewed stated that they altered their treatment plans for physician-patients. Meaning These findings suggest that guidance and education are needed to help physicians navigate the complexities of treating other physicians.
