Key Points Question Is access to mental health services associated with reincarceration risk among people released from prison? Findings In this cohort study of 1664 adults in British Columbia, Canada, who were released from prison, mental health services access was associated with a significant reduction in the hazard of reincarceration. Meaning These findings suggest that the mental health service needs of people released from prison in British Columbia, Canada, remain largely unmet and that timely access to mental health services after release may be critical to reducing reincarceration rates.
