Key Points Question Is retrieval of embedded inferior vena cava (IVC) filters with the excimer laser sheath safe, effective, and broadly generalizable? Findings This cohort study of 265 patients from 7 US sites used clinical, multicenter evidence to evaluate device safety and success, reflecting a wide applicability of the excimer laser sheath for embedded IVC filter retrieval. As the first approved device for IVC filter retrieval, the excimer laser sheath has been shown to enable significantly low complication rates and high success rates for retrieval of a variety of IVC filters. Meaning The results of this study suggest that the excimer laser sheath provides physicians with a valuable tool for facilitating the retrieval of IVC filters that are no longer indicated, potentially reducing filter-related complications.
