Key Points Question What are the demographic characteristics of individuals participating in research on the personal utility of genetic and genomic testing? Findings In this systematic review of 52 studies with 13 251 eligible participants, sex or gender was the most frequently reported demographic characteristic, followed by race and ethnicity, education, and income. Participants were disproportionately women or female (71%), White (76%), had a college degree or higher education (65%), and reported income above the US median (67%). Meaning These findings suggest that the current literature on the personal utility of genetics and genomics underrepresents the perspectives of individuals with diverse demographic backgrounds.
