Key Points Question What is the association of social determinants of health (SDOHs) with treatment and survival of patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma? Findings In this nationwide cohort study of 1389 adults with operable mesothelioma, surgery was associated with improvement in overall survival. However, SDOHs significantly attenuated these findings, with the greatest risk factors being older age, male sex, Black race, low income, and low educational attainment. Meaning These findings suggest that although surgical therapy in mesothelioma may prolong survival, SDOHs may have a negative association with survival.
