Key Points Question Does the use of an aerosol box during airway procedures reduce health care practitioner contamination or influence time to completion of airway tasks? Findings In this randomized clinical trial of 61 teams (122 participants) performing aerosol-generating medical procedures, health care practitioners using an aerosol box had significantly less contamination deposited to the torso (predoffing) across all 3 airway procedures compared with those without an aerosol box. There was no significant difference between groups in surface contamination after doffing personal protective equipment. Meaning These results suggest that aerosol box use may be protective against surface contamination prior to doffing, but this effect is not maintained after doffing personal protective equipment.
