Overview The operating room (OR) is an essential learning environment for residents to learn surgical independence. Each surgical faculty’s teaching skill and approach can have a considerable effect on the resident’s training experience in the OR and the successful acquisition of autonomy. As such, surgical residency programs have invested substantial efforts into strengthening faculty OR teaching skills. It is also known that faculty entrustment of the resident is a prerequisite to acquiring independence and that faculty entrustment behaviors drive resident entrustability.1 Key to establishing trust is developing mutual-trust relationships between the resident and surgical faculty.2,3
