A simple and highly efficient one-pot metal-free approach has been devised for the synthesis of β-carboline and pyrazole/pyrazoline based molecular hybrids. The synthesis of β-carboline C-1 tethered (N-acetyl)pyrazolines was achieved via cyclo-condensation approach while β-carboline substituted pyrazoles were afforded via I2-mediated oxidative condensation. The present protocol provides an easy access to biologically interesting di- and tri-substituted pyrazoles decorated with β-carboline framework.
