The topical focus of women in dean's office-level positions is heavily weighted towards education and community-facing activities. Similarly, the research portfolios of schools with women research leadership are dominated (60% ± 10%) by funding for training and community-based research. Those with men in that position are dominated (76% ± 8%) by funding for basic and clinical research (p << 0.001, Student's t test). Similar findings characterize the neuroscience research portfolios of these institutions and the effects of a change in dean from a person of one gender to a person of another.
