During the COVID-19 pandemic, these barriers rapidly dissolved and virtual visits increased dramatically.2,3 In resources-rich countries like the United States, video visits could be accomplished in most areas due to availability of Wi-Fi and cellular networks. Many patients preferred virtual visits due to the considerable savings of travel time and expense.7 Telemedicine visits in Zambia and throughout the world were used out of necessity during the pandemic but will likely result in lasting changes in our delivery of care and use of telemedicine even beyond the pandemic.
