Y could say my “family business” is nursing. I entered the nursing profession in the 1980s, my husband became a nurse in the 1990s, my son became a nurse in 2016, and my son’s fiancée became a nurse in 2017. Our family conversations can be quite interesting and involved. We share our challenges and our successes. We empathize with and support each other, and my husband and I share our wisdom with these novice nurses. This bond of having a nurse’s heart and wanting to care for others unifies us as a family in a way that is hard to describe. I know it is rather unique to have so many health care professionals in one family. For those of you who do not have this situation, certainly you have formed a strong bond with your coworkers and are part of a family of nurses who are unified by the common desire to care for others and advance the profession of nursing.
