The guideline states that the sterilization approach depends on device design, material, and compatibility with the sterilant; load limitations; safety requirements; and other considerations specific to individual organizations. The guideline, which was last updated in 2012, also addresses loading sterilizers, transporting sterile items, quality control, and installing and maintaining sterilization equipment.
