P nursing practice is heavily influenced by advances in technology. “The development of OR nursing has been, and still is, inextricably linked to the development of technology.”1(p3) From the inception of perioperative nursing as a specialty in 1889,2 which led to the manufacture of the first rubber surgical gloves,3 to the present, which includes surgical robots, navigational systems, and threedimensional organ printing, expertise in technology has been a critical aspect of the perioperative nurse’s role. Given the precipitous rate of technology advancement, maintaining this expertise is no easy task.
