Omer Basar was born and raised in Turkey. He graduated from medical school and also completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship in Turkey. Until 2015, he was working as a full-time professor at Hacettepe University, School of Medicine, Turkey. In 2015, he came to the Massachusetts General Hospital as a research fellow and joined the pancreatic disease research team of Dr. William R. Brugge. He has authored over 150 national and international papers, book chapters, and reviews on the topics of gastroenterology and pancreatic disease.
