This issueofDepression andAnxiety highlights studies that investigate risk predictors with a special emphasis on maternal-child dyads. Studies range from the risk factors for postpartum depression, symptoms of major depression and childhood environmental risk factors, suicide crisis inventory, and oxytocin response to youth-mother interactions, the association of peripartum synthetic oxytocin administration and depressive and anxiety disorders within the first postpartum year. Of note are two studies one by Judith Van Der Waerden on persistent maternal depressive symptoms trajectories and how they influence children’s IQ and a study by Christian Marlissa Amole on the impact of depression on the physiological responsiveness of mother-daughter dyads during social interaction. One of ADAA’s core missions is to provide resources and information not just for individuals struggling with anxiety and depression disorders but for parents and other family members as well. In fact, ADAA’s professional members have written blog posts, and presented webinars and podcasts on a variety of topics focused on parent/child & adolescent issues (including post-partum depression, suicide, symptoms of depression and anxiety) and current research and treatment options. ADAA is committed to providing opportunities for professional education and development for those dedicated to prevention, treatment, and cure. Our robust and growing programs include webinars for mental health treatment providers. You can sign up for interactive webinars and earn CE credit, or you can listen to recordings of previous webinars. ADAA board member RisaWeinberg will be presenting a new webinar – “Integrating Primary Care and the Treatment of Anxiety and Depression” on February 15, 2017. Learn more and register here. In addition, ADAAoffers a number of special interest groups (SIGS), one of which is focused on Child and Adolescent Anxiety. Chairs of the committee are Ruth Lippin, LCSW, JD, Krystal Lewis, PhD and Liza Bonin, PhD. ADAA’s SIGs serve as a vibrant forum for ADAAmembers with a common interest, such as a particular disorder, treatment, or population. The goal is to encourage collaboration, communication, education, research, mentoring, and networking focused on anxiety and mood disorders, OCD, and PTSD. The Child and Adolescent SIG is active in generating research, peer discussion and professional presentations that focus on child and adolescent anxiety issues. We invite you to join this engaging group of researchers and clinicians if this is an area of interest to you. For more information please contact Mary Gies, ADAADirector of Programs. At ADAA’s upcoming annual conference in San Francisco (April 6–9 2017) you will have the opportunity to attend numerous sessions focused on parenting, child and adolescent issues.
