Human echinococcosis is a zoonotic infection caused by the tapeworm of the genus Echinococcus, commonly Echinococcus granulosus and Echinococcus mutilocularis. It is endemic in sheep and cattle raising areas worldwide with high prevalence in Mediterranean countries, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, North Africa, Philippines, Northern China, and the Indian Subcontinent. The two common sites of involvement are the liver, followed by the lung. However, it can localize in any organ after migration from portal venous and lymphatic system after passing through the liver and lung. Uncommon sites of involvement include peritoneal and pelvic cavities, central nervous system, bone, pancreas, eye, kidney, heart, ovary, salivary glands, musculoskeletal system, and subcutaneous tissue. Subcutaneous hydatidosis is usually associated with the involvement of other organs. We report this case as diagnosis of hydatid cyst in atypical locations can be quite challenging by FNAC. The present case was one such uncommon presentation of hydatid cyst disease as subcutaneous axillary swelling diagnosed incidentally.
