The present work focuses on the solidification process of a phase change material (PCM), initiated by a flowing cold water, inside a planar latent heat storage unit (LHSU). The thermal behavior of the LHSU was analyzed using the energy equation that was solved analytically using the perturbation method. The PCM and water temperature profiles were determined analytically while the solidification front was computed numerically using the Runge‐Kutta fourth‐order method. A parametric study has done to investigate the effects of Stefan number (ε), Peclet number (Pe), and the aspect ratio of the duct (R) on the thermal behavior of LHSU.
