I read the article by Wei et al.(1) focusing on oncogenic functions and probable tumorigenesis-promoting mechanisms of circular chromodomain Y like (circ-CDYL)-microRNA-messenger RNA (mRNA)s axis as well as applications of circ-CDYL as a noninvasive biomarker in the early stages of hepatocellular carcinoma diagnosis. Although circ-CDYL will play an important role and have a promising clinical application value, there is a misunderstanding regarding a biological function of most circular RNAs as microRNAs sponges in this manuscript.
