Liver transplantation is a lifesaving operation for patients with advanced liver failure. Although mortality from liver disease continues to increase, the number of available grafts remain relatively unchanged, leading to the death of about 15-30% patients on the waiting list. Therefore, transplant teams have resorted to using marginal organs with often poorer outcomes.
