We thank Sun and colleagues for their interest in our paper. While our study cohort is not derived from the general population, the proportion of males (78.4%) in our cohort of Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) cirrhosis is consistent with the expected distribution in a U.S veteran population which is 94% male. We agree that prevalence of smoking, diabetes mellitus and obesity are higher among Veterans compared to the general population; we adjusted for them in multivariable models.
