Sirtuin 2 (SIRT2) belongs to the sirtuins family. It exists in many tissues and organs of the human body and regulates a wide range of biological functions. Studies have found that the abnormal expression of SIRT2 was associated with a variety of malignant tumors. SIRT2 possesses an important role in tumorigenesis, with both tumorā€promoting and tumorā€suppressing function. However, the mechanisms in which SIRT2 plays the roles in cancer are still controversial. This article reviews the role and molecular mechanism of SIRT2 in tumor evolution, and provides ideas for future research in this field, to guide the targeted therapy and drug development of related malignancies.
