Efforts to expand the donor pool now routinely include donation after circulatory determination of death (DCDD). In the US, team members of the accepting liver transplant center (or a designated surgeon from the organ procurement organization) almost always procure all or some of the abdominal organs. Reasons for sending the teams associated with the accepting transplant center vary but include the opportunity to visualize the liver in situ and the ability to ensure the appropriate anatomic division of structures and reduction of graft injury during procurement.
