The use of minimally invasive techniques in living donor (LD) surgery was initiated with laparoscopic donor nephrectomy in the late 1990s. It rapidly became standard and resulted in a marked increase in kidney donation. Donor hepatectomy is a more complex procedure as it involves splitting a large and highly vascularized organ with higher risk to the donor(1).
