Both acute kidney injury (AKI) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) play a significant role in the morbidity and mortality of potential liver transplantation recipients. Pre-existing AKI with the need for renal replacement therapy is associated with a 3 to 4 fold increase in the 30 day post-transplantation mortality rate1 .
