Understanding, monitoring and predicting weather and climate extremes is important because of their severe impacts on communities and ecosystems. In many parts of the world, climate extreme indices have been calculated from daily precipitation and temperature data. However, in Cameroon very few analyses of daily precipitation and temperature data have been carried out. This review is thus a call for an immediate, systematic analysis of observed climate extreme indices from daily precipitation and temperature data. The analysis will provide an understanding of the temporal and spatial variability of weather and climate extremes over Cameroon as well as contributing to the ongoing World Climate Research Programme Grand Challenge on Weather and Climate Extremes.
