To clarify the roles of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), an endogenous gasotransmitter, in the rat bladder and prostate, we investigated the distribution of enzymes related to H2S biosynthesis (cystathionine β‐synthase [CBS], cystathionine γ‐lyase [CSE], 3‐mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase [MPST], cysteine aminotransferase [CAT], and D‐amino acid oxidase [DAO]) and the content of H2S. We also investigated the effects of H2S donors (NaHS and GYY4137) on the contractility of both tissues and on micturition.
