The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Psychiatric Diagnoses (DSM‐5) significantly narrowed conditions under which life‐threatening illnesses meet qualifying traumatic event (QTE) criteria for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). To investigate the impact of this change on identification of PTSD in young adult cancer survivors (YACS), we compared prevalence of QTE exposure using DSM‐5 and earlier DSM‐IV criteria.
