Process safety management (PSM) serves as a fundamental approach to preventing major accidents in the chemical industry. To this end, China has adopted a number of regulatory, institutional and technical measures to strengthen PSM. This paper provides a systematic overview of the key developments in China's chemical PSM system in 2024, highlighting major achievements in four critical dimensions: In talent cultivation, the innovative implementation of an “enterprise‐customized, on‐site training” model has trained over 600 multidisciplinary safety engineering professionals. Regarding standard system development, the government has actively promoted the integration of PSM elements with work safety standardization, resulting in a comprehensive and systematic management framework with distinct Chinese characteristics. In knowledge dissemination, China has advanced the translation of literature related to the AIChE–Center for Chemical Process Safety (AIChE–CCPS, New York), facilitating the localization of international experience. In terms of research, universities have made continuous progress in chemical process safety, with significant achievements in a number of key areas. The paper concludes with targeted recommendations for future progress, emphasizing the importance of digital transformation, international collaboration, and coordinated governance across government, industry, and academia.
