Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) encompass formalized testing of physical and occupational capacity. FCEs are performed by specially trained physical and occupational therapists. FCEs typically require the evaluator to determine the worker’s capability to perform various work-related tasks and whether there is a match between these abilities and the essential job performance components. This may include return to work status, including recommendations for part-time, or full-time duty, duty modifications, or work-site modifications.
