Dear Editor, I would like to thank Raffa and co-workers for drawing attention to the fact that migrants do not only need basic medical support but may need high-end intensive care support just as other severely ill patients [1]. The authors reason that we could gain knowledge and get new insights by treating migrants. From an ethical point of view, this issue cannot be the central focus of health care for migrants. Immanuel Kant called the moral claim to seek refuge in the lands of another an ‘universal right of hospitality’ [2]. This includes our duty to provide medical aid if necessary [3]. Raffa’s central focus on our benefit in gaining knowledge might be misunderstood as a distorted utilitaristic approach to this issue.
