Book’s topic Analytical chemistry plays an important role in the field of cultural heritage, a large number of analytical techniques and methods now being available to define the impacts of environmental contamination, the decay pathways of materials through the actions of time and external factors, and the development of remediation (cleaning, consolidation, rehabilitation, etc.) processes based on chemical knowledge. In this context, Analytical chemistry for cultural heritage, edited by Rocco Mazzeo, covers a wide range of analytical techniques encompassing those based on the use of synchrotron sources, X-rays, Fourier transform IR (FTIR) spectroscopy, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography–mass spectrometry and immunochemical methods. All review articles discuss examples of the application of methods used for the physicochemical study of ancient and historical materials.
