Rokytecká slať (N 49°0′57.12", E 13°24′38.46", 1,100 m a.s.l.) is a 250-ha montane oligo-ombrotrophic raised bog situated on the vast Modrava plains. It lies at the source of the Rokytka brook in the Czech Republic, at a distance of 5 km from the glacial cirque of Rachelsee in Germany (cf. van der Knaap et al. 2019). The surface of the bog includes numerous centres with pools surrounded by hummocks of the association Oxycocco-Empetrion hermaphroditi and lawns with Eriophorum angustifolium Honck. and E. latifolium L. Dense stands of Pinus uncinata ssp. uliginosa (Neuman) Businský form the association Sphagno magellanici-Pinetum mughi. The boreal relics Betula nana L., Menyanthes trifoliata L. and Sphagnum compactum Lam. & DC. are preserved on the mire. Woodland cover around the mire is characterized as mountain taiga with prevailing Picea abies (L.) H. Karst and Sorbus aucuparia L. The climate is montane with an average yearly temperature of 3.2 °C and precipitation of 1,337 mm. The mire has snow cover for 6.5 months per year. Vegetation development based on the pollen diagram from Rokytecká mire (core A, SA-11-A) has already been described (cf. Svobodová et al. 2002). However, the pollen profile of core B has a higher resolution and a more robust chronology in comparison with the older one. Sediment cores were retrieved from Rokytecká slať in 2008 with a Russian corer (chamber 5 cm diameter, length 0.5 m) by B. Janský from the deepest part of the mire (ESM 1). Core B presented here was 7.5 m deep, thus 1.25 m longer than the previously described Core A (Svobodová et al. 2002). The stratigraphy consisted of peaty gyttja resting on half-decayed metamorphose schist. The gyttja alternated with decomposed layers of Sphagnum, other mosses, sedges, Eriophorum vaginatum sheaths and roots of Ericaceae.
