In this paper, a general formulation for beam with a desired shape of breathing crack is presented. The difference of the presented modeling with previous works is that the crack’s parameters such as depth, location, shape, initial configuration and breathing are directly included in the equation of motion. For demonstrating the effect of crack shape, cracks with circular and V-shapes are studied. With the aid of change in parameter or averaging method, the exact variation in amplitude and frequency of cracked beam is determined.
