This article addresses the use of cultural capital to influence therapeutic practices with culturally diverse clients. Using cultural wealth from a Critical Race Theory perspective (Yosso in Race Ethnicity and Education, 8(1), 69–91, 2005) highlights unacknowledged forms of cultural capital of diverse groups. Utilizing this perspective impacts counsellors’ positioning within the therapeutic relationship, shapes the discourse within therapy, and can enhance clients’ autonomous motivation within the therapeutic process. This article builds upon Yosso’s (Race Ethnicity and Education, 8(1), 69–91, 2005) forms of cultural wealth by situating them within a therapeutic context.
