Co3O4 and K/Co3O4 were tested in catalytic N2O decomposition. K/Co3O4 exhibited higher activity than Co3O4, which was drastically and irrecoverably decreased with added NO. Studies revealed that the Co2+ valence state changed after NO adsorption, and that potassium strengthened the Co–NO bond, impeding NO desorption, even above 400 °C.Graphical Abstract
