Carbohydrates from the aerial part of Silybum marianum were studied. The monosaccharide composition was characterized. It was found that the water-soluble polysaccharide was an arabinogalactan in which the main chain consisted of β-1,4-bonded galactopyranoses with arabinose and glucose residues in side branches.
