Abstract Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a systemic vasculitis of unknown etiology that affects the aorta and its primary branches or large arteries in the proximal upper or lower extremities. Ocular manifestations of TA include microaneurysm formation, small-vessel dilation, arteriovenous anastomosis, retinal ischemia, and neovascular glaucoma. We herein report a case involving a 23-year-old Asian woman who presented with isolated acute anterior ischemic optic neuropathy and was initially misdiagnosed with optic neuritis. The stenosis and occlusion of the aorta and other proximal arteries on angiography confirmed the diagnosis of TA.
