A theoretical investigation is carried out using the perturbation method to calculate the resonant frequency of a horizontally and vertically perturbed rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (RDRA). The accuracy of the proposed method is validated with the help of experimental and simulated data available in the existing literature, revealing that the calculated results are in good agreement with the available data. Compared with other numerical methods, the presented theory is easy to understand and can be implemented easily with the help of less complex equations. Furthermore, the perturbation provides greater flexibility in antenna design, leading to a wide tuning range, and enhanced gain and bandwidth control compared with the unperturbed RDRA design.
