Various morphologies of ZnO, CaFe2O4 and CaFe2O4–ZnO nanocomposites were synthesized via a simple hydrothermal method at water as a green solvent. The effect of concentration, reaction time, precipitating agent and capping agent on the particle size of the products was investigated. Glucose and starch were used as green and cost-effective capping agents. The prepared products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, vibrating sample magnetometer and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The photo-catalytic behaviour of nanoparticles and nanocomposites were evaluated using the degradation of three azo dyes (acid black, acid brown, acid violet) under ultraviolet irradiation. The results show suitable magnetic and photocatalytic performance of nanocomposite.
