A highly sensitive nanostructured sensing material has been fabricated successfully by designing Fe3O4/NiO composite with p–n heterojunction. The morphology and structure of as-obtained Fe3O4/NiO composites were analyzed by various kinds of techniques. A bifunctional sensing mechanism of the composites was proposed in which the combined effects of existence of p-NiO/n-Fe3O4 heterojunction and the ascendant architecture contributed to an improvement in the ethanol characteristics.
