Nanoparticles (NPs) of Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) were synthesized by microwave hydrothermal method for various polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) surfactant quantity. Thermal stability, microstructure, morphology and optical properties of the CZTS nanoparticles were characterized and these NPs synthesized with different quantities of PVP are pure kesterite CZTS phase with good crystallinity. There are different size of spherical agglomerates, with crystal size between 2 and 5 nm and band gap of these materials are around 1.56 eV. Thin films were made with the NPs to determine photoelectric properties and photoresponse measurement, these values show great potential for photovoltaic applications.
