Single crystals of pure and Copper (Cu) doped (0.5, 1 and 1.5 mol%) SAP were grown by slow evaporation method at ambient temperature. XRD profile exhibited that all crystals reveals orthorhombic crystal structure. The functional groups existing in the grown crystal were studied by the FTIR analysis. The UV–Vis–NIR study proposes that the optical transmittance is increased with increase of Cu concentration and doped crystals are highly transparent in the region 300–1000 nm. The energy band gap was calculated using the transmittance spectra for all the crystals. In photoluminescence analysis, the green emission at 523 nm was observed. Concentration percentage of the Cu in the grown crystals was confirmed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopic analysis. Second harmonic generation efficiency measurements indicate an increase of optical transmittance due to Cu dopant concentration. The thermal stability and decomposition temperature of SAP crystal were found.
